The M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy Program will be hosting a panel discussion with several panelists, each who will be sharing their experience with honoring both their religious and queer identities. Panelists include Dr. Ben Schilaty, a social work professor at Utah Valley University and part-time therapist specializing in working with LGBTQ Latter-day Saints and their families; Justin Telthorst, founder of Empty Chairs (@emptychairshome), a faith-based content platform and nonprofit serving people who feel they don’t belong in their faith community, especially LGBT+ Catholics and those who want to walk alongside them; and Ahmad Qais Munhazim, Afghan, Muslim, and perpetually displaced, an Associate Professor of Global Studies at Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, and an interdisciplinary scholar, (de)colonial ethnographer, and artist. The event will be moderated by MFT Program Director, Dr. Kimmery Newsom.
