With spring registration starting next week, eligible juniors and seniors planning to enroll in an internship for credit need to register in advance of the spring semester. Internships start at the same time as the spring semester courses.
If you have already obtained an internship and plan to earn credit in spring semester, please work with your faculty advisor and site supervisor to complete the Internship Registration Process now.
If you are still seeking an opportunity, once you have been hired, work with your faculty advisor and site supervisor to complete the Internship Registration Process. You cannot begin the internship for credit until you have been approved and enrolled in the credit(s).
📋 4 Steps to Register an Internship Before December 18
To enroll please complete the following steps before you head home for break:
- Confirm Hours & Credits
- Work with your faculty advisor to determine credit(s) and required hours (Minimum: 45 hours per credit — e.g., 3 credits = 135 total hours / ~9 hrs/week).
- Create Learning Plan
- Collaborate with your faculty advisor and site supervisor to complete the Learning Plan Template.
- Submit Request in Handshake
- Log into Handshake to submit your Experience request. For step-by-step instructions, visit the “Submit Your Experience in Handshake” section on the Internship Registration page.
- Final Enrollment
- Once all forms are submitted and approved, you will be officially enrolled in the internship credit(s) and will receive confirmation from internships@smumn.edu
LATE REGISTRATION: If you do not have your internship approved before December 18 you may be delayed in beginning your internship and may need additional verification of timeframe to complete the internship before it is approved. Late internship registration will be accepted without a late fee through January 8. Anyone approved to register for an internship after January 8 will be charged a $50 late registration fee.
🗓️ Important Dates & Course Requirements
- Spring Internship Period: January 4 – April 23, 2027 – All hours must be completed within this timeframe.
- Coursework: You will submit timesheets/paystubs and complete 2 reflection papers during the semester.

Summer internship registration should be completed before April 29, 2027.
