WINONA / MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota is proud to announce that its Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program has been granted full reaccreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) for a period of seven years—the maximum term allowable by the accrediting body.
This national distinction follows a comprehensive evaluation and on-site review conducted earlier this year, recognizing the program’s exceptional adherence to high academic standards, clinical training quality, and commitment to student outcomes.
“Securing the maximum seven-year reaccreditation term reflects the dedication of our faculty, staff, supervisors, and students,” said Dr. Kimmery Newsom, PhD, LMFT-S, Program Director. “COAMFTE accreditation is the gold standard in marriage and family therapy education, and this accomplishment reinforces our mission to prepare ethically grounded, culturally responsive practitioners to serve individuals, couples, and families across our communities.”
COAMFTE accreditation ensures that graduates complete rigorous educational and clinical training requirements, positioning them for success in clinical practice, licensure, and doctoral-level studies. The accreditation process evaluates curriculum, faculty qualifications, student outcomes, administrative support, and community partnerships.
Saint Mary’s extends its sincere appreciation to the university administrators, clinical supervisors, faculty, students, and alumni whose contributions were pivotal throughout the self-study and site visit process.
