With the moonlight and stars as their background, the Saint Mary’s University Concert Band and Choir invite you to bring your family, a blanket, and some lawn chairs to their Fall concert taking place on the Saint Yon’s lawn. Dr. Michael Bagby, director of music programming, describes the motivation for this event. “These music students are pouring their hearts and souls into the music. With this concert, I wanted to create an experience that changes how we interact with music and nature.” The 45-minute program begins at 9:00 P.M. on Friday, September 29 to kick off a weekend filled with family-friendly events. Featuring classical composers like Aaron Copland as well as folk and pop artists including John Denver and Dua Lipa, the nature-themed musical selections range from the inspirational fanfare to the audience sing-along. A special appearance by the Pep Band will add to the excitement. Student leader and choir member Aidan Indahl explains how the students have come together to make this event possible. “All of the people really want to be here, and you can tell that, so we have been able to put things together really quickly.” He also shared what he is most excited about with this semester. “I really missed singing as a choir… and there is one particular song that I am super excited about.” Check out www.facebook.com/smumnchoirs for more information on this event outside Saint Yon’s Hall (or inside Page Theater, the backup location). Also check out Frank Ticheli’s “Earth Song” which already has Aidan and many others very excited.
