Student Senate Meeting Minutes

2/3/26

President Garrett Rotzien called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  

Members Present: Garrett Rotzien, JJ Garcia, Javier Rodriguez, Jaedyn Fellenz, Scott Walker, Nozomi Osada, Maggie Albers (Marc Albers), Grace Leis, Mollie Koch (Lydia Hawkins), Caroline Paulson, Zach Ames, Rylee O’Konek, Kylie Faerber, Peyton Berg (Abby Jacobs), Karli Zetah (Cole Markert), Angel Garcia (Jacob Fiala), Bobby Skemp, Noelle Buckley, Kylee Paul (Hailey Kieffer), Kathy Tran, Amanda Siemienas 

Members Absent: Lizzie Pike, Taryn Dornseif, Reese Heitzman, Zoe Fink, Bella Norris, Libby Dellessio, Destinee Hoffman, and Alexa March

Resolution 004: Dumbbells for Cardio Room

  • There will be a new set of 50-100 pound dumbbells with a rack in the fieldhouse, cardio room for students to use.

Garrett Rotzien, President

  • ICE Resources (workshops)
    • Got ideas from other schools presidents and am working with Fernanda to set up workshops.
  • Golf Simulator Security is in the process of being accomplished. 

Noah Lahner, Vice President of Financial Affairs

  • Nothing to report. 

Javier Rodriguez, Vice President of Campus Affairs

  • I am in the process of working on the netting for the golf simulator room.

Zoe Fink, Vice President of Academic Affairs

  • Nothing to report. 

Reese Heitzman, Vice President of Public Affairs

  • Voter Engagement Plan 
    • Eboard recently met with Ann Merchlewitz to go over the school’s Voter Engagement plan and we all approved it. If you would like to read it, you can search “SMUMN Voter Engagement Plan” and it should be the first link that pops up.  
  • Day at the Capitol Sign Up 
    • You will all be receiving an email from Garret for the link to sign up for Day at the Capitol. Everyone is required to attend. If you are not able to attend then please email me with your reason. 

Jaedyn Fellenz, Vice President of Student Affairs 

    • Wednesday – Women’s basketball vs. St. Catherine 7PM
    • Friday – Men’s hockey vs. Bethel 7PM, Women’s hockey @ Bethel
    • Saturday – Track and field @ UWRF, Men and women’s basketball @ St. Olaf, Women’s hockey vs. Bethel 3PM, Men’s hockey @ Bethel
  • Volunteers needed March 4th-7th 
      • Bluff Regional Robotics Competition through FIRST
      • 50 high schools, over 2,000 people
      • SMU is asking for volunteers for setup and concessions but the company itself also is asking for all kinds of volunteers like photographers and other staff 
      • On the 5th there will also be a recruitment event

  • Cardinal Career Prep
    • It’s the last week to sign up for this event on Feb. 10-11
      • Registration closes at 8am on Friday.
      • There is more information and access to the sign up that was posted in the Saint Mary’s today. 

Taryn Dornseif, Vice President of Media and Communications

  • JJ and I are working on the infographic that will be sent out to all SMU students. 

Lizzie Pike, Vice President of Administrative Affairs

  • PMA is hired to help with Gaslight for this Spring!

JJ Garcia, Vice President of Multicultural Affairs

  • Reached out to Joe Piscitiello regarding limited pub items at night. Grills will now be cleaned at 9:45 pm each night. Grill items will not be available for purchase after that time.
  • Por La cultura is partnering with the makerspace and is having comfort and conversations this Thursday from 6-8pm in Aquinas 300.  This is a relaxed and creative space to unwind, connect with others, and enjoy making various crafts together, such as fidgets and friendship bracelets. 
  • The Perch is partnering with Por La Cultura and Chartwells for a Super Bowl party. Sunday 5:30-9 pm in the Caf. There will be raffles and tons of prizes to win. 
  • The infographic with student senate updates will be sent out sometime this week.
