We want to acknowledge that the presence of ICE agents in Minneapolis, and, more broadly, in the State of Minnesota, is creating anxiety, uncertainty, anger, and sadness in members of our Saint Mary’s community.  We understand that the possible appearance of ICE agents on any of our campuses or inside campus buildings would be unsettling. Since our campuses are private property, ICE agents should not enter our campuses or our buildings without a valid judicial order (search or arrest warrant). The safety of our students and employees is a significant priority for us. Accordingly, we have are taken several proactive steps that we hope will contribute to a greater sense of safety and security for our students and employees on campus.

  1. Please review the document entitled ICE Agent(s) on Campus: Checklist for Employees on the HR webpage.  We hope it will provide you with an accessible guide for possible interactions with ICE agents.
  2. Please review the document entitled ICE Agent(s) on Campus: Checklist for Students on the HR webpage. This has been shared with students.
  3. As you know, all of our campus buildings are now locked throughout the day and evening.   No student or employee should provide ICE agents with access to any building on campus.
  4. We have posted our property as private property, asserting our Constitutional rights to be free from search without a valid search or arrest warrant. You may see these signs in appropriate locations around campus.
  5. If you see ICE agents on our campus, please call Campus Security at 12-720-0417 (Minneapolis) or Campus Safety at 507-457-1703 (Winona).

Please remain calm and professional in any interactions with ICe agents. Stay safe.
