A group from Saint Mary University attended the 2nd Sister Generose Gervais Faith and Medicine Symposium on Friday, April 11 and Saturday, April 12.  The symposium is named in honor of Sister Generose who was a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes in Rochester, Minnesota.  She served as administrator of Saint Mary’s Hospital at Mayo Clinic from 1971-1986.  Sister Generose said, “successful navigation of change requires a steadfast focus on values.  They are the compass. They are the cornerstone.  Values never change. The only way to withstand the winds of change is to have your values as your foundation.”

The symposium was held in Rochester, Minnesota at Lourdes High School with an aim to explore the dynamic relationship between advancements in artificial intelligence, medicine, beauty, faith, meaning and purpose within the healthcare industry.  Speakers included Bishop Robert Barron, DD, STD Bishop of the Diocese of Winona-Rochester and Father James Burns, IVD, PhD President of Saint Mary’s University.  Saint Mary’s University was a co-sponsor of the symposium and was well represented by Brother Robert Smith, Darren Row, Chris Adamson, Sister Agnes Mary Graves, Sister Mary Micaela Hoffman, and 10 nursing students: Camryn Elzen, Hayle Dayton, Rheanna Hopkins, Emma Kasella, McKenzie Meland, Sophia Paduano, Bailey Peterick, Kaydence Plank, Brooke Schilling, and Susana Zuccarelli.
