CELT, in partnership with the SGPP Faculty Development Committee, is excited to announce the theme and opening session of the 2024 Fall Conference: “Connected Teaching When There Isn’t Enough Time.” Harriet Schwartz, author of Connected Teaching, will offer a keynote and workshop September 18 and 19 on her work with relational teaching and promoting intellectual mattering.
In the lead-up to Schwartz’s presentations, we will have workshops focusing on effective teaching when we are overwhelmed and have little time. The next workshop in the series will be offered by the Writing Center on ethical ways to interact with generative AI.
Writer in the Loop Workshop
July 10, Noon – 1:00 pm
This online workshop introduces participants to the “writer in the loop” model for teaching students how to ethically and effectively use large language models (AI). The “writer in the loop” builds off the “human in the loop” literature on prompt engineering to develop a framework that maximizes student learning. There are two primary goals: 1) help faculty and staff develop an intellectual framework for when AI is appropriate for student use; and 2) develop skills in teaching the ethical and effective discipline-specific use of AI in the classroom. Come with questions and any insights you might want to share.
