POSTING ON BEHALF OF WESLEY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Wesley United Methodist Church will provide up to three $750 scholarships (total of $2250) for college students who participate in the church’s music program.  The scholarships will be split between two semesters: $350 for first semester and $400 for second semester.  The portion of the scholarship will be submitted to the college/university after the recipient’s first participation in a worship service.

Application:

Students interested in the scholarship should submit:

  1. The official application,
  2. An unofficial university transcript,
  3. A video recording of themselves performing a single piece, or a movement from a larger piece, showcasing their musical skill, and
  4. A one-page essay describing their musical background and their understanding of the relationship between music with faith and worship.

Expectations:

Based upon the student’s talent (voice or instrument), the student will have the following expectations:

  1. If the talent is vocal, the student will attend at least 2 Wednesday choir practices and sing with the choir in at least 2 Sunday services a month while school is in session.
  2. If the talent is instrumental, the student will work with the Director of Music to coordinate playing times with a minimum of 2 performances per month while school is in session.  These performances could be outside the Sunday morning service.

Students not meeting the expectations during the Fall semester may have their scholarship revoked for the second semester.  Students not meeting the expectations during the Spring semester will not be invited to re-apply for the scholarship the following year.
