A Physician Assistant from Winona Health, Hannah Degallier enjoys helping Saint Mary’s students live healthier lives through her work at the Jay Johnson Wellness Center.

“Saint Mary’s students are so kind, appreciative, and respectful,” Hannah said. “It’s reassuring to work with a young generation who has those qualities.”

A graduate of Winona State University with a degree in cellular and molecular biology, Hannah went to graduate school at Midwestern University in Illinois. She spent five years working at a private family medicine practice in the Twin Cities before moving to Winona in 2019.

Hannah’s passion for her job stems from her problem-solving skills and interest in promoting wellness to help patients live healthier lives and potentially prevent chronic conditions. “People don’t always listen, but encouraging and helping them live healthier lives is what makes this job meaningful,” she said.

When she’s not working, Hannah enjoys road cycling, hiking, trail running, and mountain biking. She also has a passion for baking and gardening. In fact, one of her favorite television shows is The Great British Bake Off. She also likes to spend free time with her husband, Peter, and their three children.

Hannah wishes that more Saint Mary’s students knew about their free access to wellness services so they could take advantage of all that is available to them. “Everything done here is covered by tuition, so you don’t need insurance,” she said.

She also emphasized the importance of knowing how to access and make appointments at the Wellness Center. Hannah drew attention to the fact that there is now a full-time health services coordinator, Katherine Johnson, with an office in HC132, so students can visit her with any questions about services offered or to learn how to register with Winona Health.

Looking ahead, Hannah is excited to travel with her family and compete in TriNona, a local triathlon. “I’m best at biking and swimming, but it’s nice to push yourself a bit,” she said.
