Saint Mary’s University will be hosting the first ever Bluff Regional Robotics Competition through FIRST from March 4th -7th. This will bring at least 2,000 people to campus during that timeframe and about 50 different high school teams competing from several states. We are looking for volunteers that would be interested in signing up to help with a shift during the competition. We have the following opportunities available:
- Wednesday, March 4th 5:30 pm – 8 pm, 10 volunteers to help direct teams where to go for setup
- Thursday, March 5th – Saturday, March 7th, we will be looking for 4 volunteers per shift from 8 am – 6 pm in the concessions booth. We can set shifts based on your availability.
- FIRST also has a lot of volunteer opportunities through them that directly tie into the event such as:
-
Safety Manager – perfect for someone who is familiar with basic OSHA regulations
-
Event Photographer
-
Field Disassembly – Saturday evening only
-
Field Resetter – no technical knowledge required
-
Social Media Manager
-
Inspection Manager – administrative organizer
-
JUDGE – some of you already received the flyer about this
-
Machine Shop Staff
-
Pit Administrator – administrative organizer
-
Practice Field Attendant – a very social person
-
Queuer – line teams up for the event
More information about all of these roles can be found here: Join The Mission | Volunteers | FIRST. -
Please contact ljohnson@smumn.edu to sign up to volunteer. She will either coordinate you volunteering for directing, concessions, or connect you with the volunteer coordinator at FIRST directly to volunteer for one of their positions.
As part of hosting this competition we are able to hold a recruitment event for the students and we are working with admissions to host this event on Thursday, March 5th. We are not able to table during the competition as it is against their rules but instead are provided an opportunity to host this event. Please contact admissions for more questions on how to get involved with that event. Volunteering in another area during the competition also provides a great way to connect with the students!
