Dear Minneapolis Students, Faculty and Staff,

Yesterday, there was an attempted theft of a car in the parking lot west of Lasalle Hall on the Minneapolis campus. The owner, a student, was not near the car and there were no injuries reported. The car theft attempt did not succeed. This happened yesterday afternoon.

We want to send a safety reminder to all in our community whether you are at work, in transit or on your personal time. We urge everyone to be extra vigilant and pay attention to their surroundings at all times. Please be observant and, when possible, do not walk alone.

Other tips include making sure your cellphone is handy and has been charged, try to park your car in well lit areas and do not leave your vehicle running while unattended or leave your key inside a parked vehicle.

We remind you that we recently installed cameras in key locations around campus, and our campus safety officers consistently patrol the entire campus. We regularly review our safety protocols.

If you are on the Twin Cities Campus and notice something of concern, please contact Campus Security at 612-720-0417. And if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me, at gbilden@smumn.edu or 612-728-5145.

The safety of our entire campus community is always our primary concern.
