The Saint Mary’s University athletic department celebrated an unforgettable evening on March 21, inducting three new members into its Sports Hall of Fame during the Cardinal Excellence Fund Dinner.

Honored as part of this year’s class were Bailey Edwards B’12 (women’s tennis), Steven Brieske B’12 (baseball), and Kate Jerman ’97 (women’s soccer), as a strong crowd gathered to recognize their lasting impact on Cardinal athletics.

Set against a perfect spring evening, the event was held on campus for the first time, adding to the significance of the celebration..

“It was a blast celebrating Bailey, Kate, and Steve alongside their friends, family, and the Saint Mary’s athletics community,” said athletic director Brian Sisson. “Honoring these athletes on campus made it even more special, and it truly was a memorable night for everyone involved.”

The program opened with a powerful address from senior softball player Abbie Stigler, who spoke on behalf of current student-athletes while surrounded by her peers.

“My experience at Saint Mary’s has instilled values in me that go far beyond the softball field,” Stigler said. “I want to thank Bailey, Steven, and Kate because without athletes like you, the opportunities we have today wouldn’t be possible. It’s an honor to wear the same name across our jerseys.”

Each inductee followed with heartfelt remarks, reflecting on their journeys and the honor of joining the Hall of Fame.

“When I first stepped onto the court as a college athlete, I never imagined I’d be standing here,” Edwards said. “Tennis gave me challenges, opportunities, and friendships that shaped who I am far beyond the court.”

“I feel incredibly honored to share this recognition with my father as fellow Hall of Fame members,” Jerman added. “Throughout life, you’ll encounter coaches, mentors, and role models who leave a lasting impact and that’s something you carry with you forever.”

“For me, sports have always been about competition, experiences, and the friendships built along the way,” Brieske said. “Those memories and the teammates I shared them with will stay with me for a lifetime.”

The evening served as a celebration of excellence, legacy, and the enduring spirit of Saint Mary’s athletics.

“We’re already looking forward to welcoming another outstanding class next March,” Sisson added. “And we thank everyone who helped make this event such a success.”
