WINONA, Minn. – Saint Mary’s athletics is gearing up for an exciting final month of winter sports, with plenty of action on the horizon across all programs.

TENNIS TAKES ON THE FALCONS
The Cardinal tennis teams recently faced Concordia (Wis.), with the women’s squad staying red-hot and improving to 3-0 after a 6-1 victory. The men battled hard but dropped the match, moving to 1-3 on the season.

The women will take a week off, while the men return to action on Sunday, Feb. 8, traveling to Ripon, Wis. to face Wisconsin Lutheran at noon and Ripon at 3:00 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL SET FOR ONE-GAME WEEK
After tough home losses to Bethel and Carleton last week, the Cardinals (1-19, 0-11) will regroup with a lighter schedule ahead. The team will hit the road to face St. Olaf in Northfield for a 3:00 p.m. matchup later this week.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RIDING MOMENTUM
The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball (15-4, 9-3) team delivered a perfect 2-0 week, earning a road win over Carleton (71-59) before knocking off No. 24 Bethel, 62-47, at home on Saturday.

Next up, the Cardinals host St. Catherine in a rematch on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 7:00 p.m., looking to avenge their Jan. 17 loss. They’ll then travel to St. Olaf on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip-off, aiming for a conference sweep.

MEN’S HOCKEY SURGES FORWARD
Currently sitting second in the conference standings, the Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team (10-7-2, 6-3-1) is coming off an impressive home sweep of St. Scholastica. Saturday’s contest featured a dramatic comeback, capped by Carter Newpower’s game-winning goal with just 22 seconds remaining in the 4-3 victory.

The Cardinals host Bethel on Friday for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop before heading to Arden Hills on Saturday for a 5:00 p.m. road game.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY SPLITS ROAD SERIES
The Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team (8-8-2, 4-6-2) earned a split in their conference road series against St. Scholastica last week. They’ll now take on Bethel, traveling to Arden Hills on Friday, Feb. 6 for a 7:00 p.m. game before returning home for their lone Saturday home contest at 3:00 p.m.

TRACK & FIELD HEADS TO RIVER FALLS
Fresh off another record-breaking performance, the Cardinals continue to build momentum on the track. The women’s 4×200 relay team—Samantha Munson, Melissa Torres, Jossey Sammanen, and Zari Young—set a new school record with a 1:46.01 time, shaving a full second off the previous mark.

This weekend, the team heads to UW–River Falls for the Winter Classic, beginning Saturday, Feb. 7 at 11:00 a.m.
