WINONA, Minn. — The first full week of Saint Mary’s athletics is back as we are driving right back into the action for what promises to be an exciting new year.

THREE GAME WEEK FOR MEN’S HOCKEY

After a month-long break and a hot start to the Saint Mary’s men’s hockey teams (6-3-1, 3-1-0) season, the Cardinals are opening 2026 with a three game week. The team looks to travel to Menominee, Wis. on Tuesday, Jan. 6 for the third time this season to settle the split series.

They will turn around and jump back into conference action traveling to Gustavus Adolphus for a 7:05 p.m. puck drop on Friday, Jan. 9 and then return to home ice Saturday to host the Gusties at 7:05 p.m.

NONCONFERENCE ACTION FOR WOMEN’S HOCKEY

The Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team (5-5-0, 2-4-0)kicked off the year taking the nonconference series sweep over UW-Stevens Point beating the Pointers 3-1 both on Friday and Saturday led by Celia Midtbo’s hat trick in front of a home crowd.

This week, the team has another nonconference battle against No. 11 ranked UW-Eau Claire Blugolds this weekend. For their first game of the week, the Cardinals host the ranked Blugolds for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop and then travel to Eau Claire Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

MEN’S BASKETBALL LEAGUE MATCHUPS

The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team (1-12, 0-4) had their first outing this new year at Macalester where they let an early lead slip away. Now, the team is looking to make a mark in conference.

This week, the Cardinals travel to Bethel for a weeknight 7:30 p.m. tipoff on Wednesday, Jan. 7 before hosting Concordia on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 3:00 p.m. Two teams with just one win in conference play.

CONFERENCE WEEK CONTINUES FOR WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

It has been quite the season so far for the Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team as they are looking at a 10-1 record (4-0 in conference) and their best start since the 2015-16 season and are currently riding a nine game win streak, the first since the 2013-14 season.

The team already kicked off 2026 with a win over Macalester 60-38 on Saturday and look to carry out similar performances this week. The Cardinals will face No. 19 ranked Bethel Royals in Arden Hills Wednesday night before hosting top of the conference Concordia on Saturday, Jan. 10 for a 1:00 p.m. tip off for what promises to be a big week.
