All of our fall Cardinal teams were in action this past week, with many awards to hand out. As Saint Mary’s teams wrap up their final non-conference games and dive into the heart of the season, we’re excited to have our Cardinal fans along for the journey.

CROSS COUNTRY RECAP

The Cardinal cross country team returned to action after a three-week break, battling the heat at the highly competitive Blugold Invitational in Colfax, Wisconsin. The men’s team finished 26th and the women’s team placed 28th, with over half of the Cardinals improving on their previous times.

They’ll be back in action on October 18th in Illinois for the Augustana Interregional.

WELCOME HOME VOLLEYBALL

This past Saturday, the Cardinal volleyball team (8-9) hit the road for a single-match week, traveling to Duluth, Minnesota to face off against the Saints. In a five-set thriller, the Cardinals battled hard but came up just short. Despite the loss, several student-athletes delivered standout performances.

Kinlee Grattan notched a career-high 28 assists, Kali Olson posted a career-best 9 blocks, and her sister, Ayla Olson, matched that with a career-high 9 blocks of her own. To cap it all off, the team set a new school record with 24 block assists, breaking the previous mark of 23 and finished with a season-best 17 total blocks.

After spending over a month on the road, their last home appearance dating back to September 6th during the Sugar Loaf Classic, the Cardinals are finally returning home for their true home opener on Tuesday, October 7th. They’ll host Concordia (4-9) at 6:00 p.m., as the Cobbers look to secure their first conference win of the season.

It’s a busy week for the Cardinals, who will also be at home on Friday to host Hamline (6-6) at 7:00 p.m. They’ll then wrap up their three-game stretch on the road, traveling to Macalester (3-14) on Saturday, October 11th for a 5:00 p.m. matchup and another team searching for their first conference win.

MEN’S SOCCER LONE GAME

The men’s soccer team (3-6-3) has been on the move since the season began, often playing more than two games a week. This week, however, they’ll get a bit of a breather with just one match on the schedule.

The Cardinals picked up their first conference win on Saturday with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Concordia, thanks to a game-winning goal from Ivan Ruiz. They’ll look to close out their nonconference slate at home this Wednesday, October 8th, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against UW-Stout (1-8-3).

WOMEN’S SOCCER HOME SATURDAY

The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team (8-2-2) is looking to return to the win column after earning back-to-back draws in conference play last week tying Macalester 1-1 at home and Concordia 2-2 on the road. Lauryn Skoruppa was on fire, scoring all three goals for the Cardinals.

They’ll look to bounce back this Saturday, October 11th, when they host St. Catherine (9-2) at 3:30 p.m. in a highly anticipated rematch of last year’s MIAC Conference Championship game.
