It might be the last week of January, but that’s not slowing down the Saint Mary’s University Cardinals—things are just getting busier! Take a look at what they’ve got lined up this week!
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Cardinal women’s basketball team (8-8) went 1-1 last week, securing a team win against St. Olaf College, before falling to the College of Saint Benedict by nine on Saturday.
The team is set to face two tough opponents this week. On Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., the women will travel to Hamline University (12-5), who are currently third in the conference. Then, on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m., they’ll host Bethel University (14-3), the top team in the conference.
MEN’S BASKETBALL IS BACK
The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team (5-12) had a bye weekend, playing just one game last Wednesday against St. Olaf, which they lost. They’re focused on bouncing back and getting healthy for their opponents this week.
Like the women’s schedule, the men will take on the same teams, with both opponents ranked similarly at the top of the conference. On Wednesday night, the Cardinals will head to Hamline (10-8) for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against the third-place Pipers. Then, on Saturday, they’ll host the fourth-place Bethel Royals (11-6) at 3 p.m.
WOMEN’S HOCKEY HOME STAND
This past weekend, the women’s hockey team (11-5) traveled to St. Cloud and swept Saint Benedict! They’ll stay home this upcoming weekend to host St. Scholastica (4-13) on both Friday and Saturday. Additionally, they’ll face defending national champions UW-River Falls (15-2-2) on Tuesday, February 4th, to wrap up non-conference play.
The team will face the Saints at 7 p.m. on Friday, then play them again on Saturday at 2 p.m. both at home. On Tuesday, they’ll wrap up non-conference play with a 7 p.m. game against the Falcons.
MEN’S HOCKEY IN DULUTH
The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team (8-8-1) will be on the road this weekend, traveling to face Saint Scholastica (9-9-1) on Friday and Saturday. Last weekend, they split their conference series with Saint John’s.
They’ll play at 7 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday, both on the road. The Saints are currently ranked sixth in the WIAC.
MENS AND WOMEN’S TENNIS
It was a great Saturday for the men’s and women’s tennis teams, as both secured wins over Martin Luther College to kick off 2025!
After their successful match, the men’s team took on Lawrence but lost in a close battle. On Sunday, they faced Carleton and were defeated by one of the top teams in the region.
Both teams return home on Saturday taking on Ripon College at 1:30 p.m.
TRACK AND FIELD AT UW-STOUT
The track and field team split between two locations this past weekend, competing at both the St. Olaf Invitational and Multi, as well as the Pat Healy Classic hosted by UW-La Crosse.
More than five Cardinals set personal records at the highly competitive meets. The team will head back to Wisconsin on Saturday to compete in the Warren Bowlus Open, hosted by UW-Stout.
Goodluck to all those competing! Go Cardinals!
