WINONA, Minn. – And just like that, the Cardinals are back in action with a full week of events ahead! The Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team has a packed week with three games, while both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will continue conference play and finish the week at home.
Three Game Week for Hockey
The Cardinal men’s hockey team (6-3-1) earned their first win of 2025 on Saturday, defeating Lawrence 3-2 at home to extend their six-game win streak. The team has a busy week ahead, with three games scheduled. On Tuesday at 3 p.m., they’ll travel to Iowa to make up a postponed game against Dubuque. The week will wrap up with a mix of home and away matchups against Gustavus.
Dubuque (0-12-2) is eager to secure their first win of the season, while Saint Mary’s is determined not to be the team that gives it to them. Dubuque recently dropped a series to Gustavus, whom the Cardinals will face later this weekend.
To wrap up a busy week, the Cardinals will host Gustavus (8-5) at home on Friday at 7:05 p.m., then travel to Gustavus on Saturday for the series finale, with a 7:05 p.m. puck drop. Gustavus has won their last two games, having swept Dubuque in their most recent series.
Conference Games for Men’s Basketball
The Saint Mary’s men’s basketball team (4-8) is coming off a hectic week of action, following their holiday break in California. While in Claremont, they dropped their first game to a tough Claremont-Mudd-Scripps squad but bounced back to defeat Caltech by 10. The team then traveled to Concordia on Saturday to resume conference play, where they suffered a loss.
The Cardinals will head to Augsburg (6-6) on Wednesday, January 8th, for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off in the Twin Cities. The Auggies are coming off consecutive victories, having defeated conference rival Carleton and Mount Saint Vincent in a holiday tournament.
To wrap up the week, the team will host Carleton College (7-4) on Saturday, January 11th, at 1 p.m. The Knights, who have dropped their last two games, will be aiming to get back on track.
Women’s Basketball Conference Week
The Saint Mary’s women’s basketball team (4-6) is coming off a big conference win to start 2025! The team secured a 63-58 victory over top conference contender Concordia on Saturday, bouncing back after falling short in both games during their holiday trip to Texas.
Next, the Cardinals will travel to Augsburg (2-9) on Wednesday, January 8th, for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off. The Auggies recently ended a seven-game losing streak with a win over Crown College in a holiday tournament but were defeated by Carleton on Saturday.
The Cardinals will wrap up the week at home following the men’s basketball game on Saturday with a 3 p.m. matchup against Carleton. It will be a special day in Saint Mary’s Gymnasium, as the game will also serve as Alumni Day, honoring all former Cardinal women’s basketball players!
The teams are thrilled to have students back on campus after the holiday break and are eager to dive into conference play. Go Cardinals!
