Saint Mary’s University hopes you enjoyed a great holiday weekend, but now it’s time to get back into the excitement of athletic events! To get the week started, the Cardinal men’s basketball team heads to Menomonee to take on UW-Stout on Monday, December 2nd to play in game one of a three game week. The women’s basketball team will host conference opponent St. Catherine on Wednesday, December 4th, the men’s hockey team will take on the Concordia College Cobbers all weekend at home whereas the women’s hockey team will travel to Concordia this weekend.

Men’s Basketball Three Game Week

The men’s basketball team is eager to rebound on the road this week, as they are currently facing a three-game losing streak. The Cardinals most recently lost to Elmhurst University before heading into break. The Cardinals will face the winless Blue Devils of UW-Stout (0-6) on Monday for a 7 p.m. tip off. This game will be the first of three this busy week.

On Wednesday, December 4th, the team will take on Northland, who are also winless this early season (0-6), for an evening game of 5:30 p.m. at home. This will be only the third time these two teams have matched up, the Cardinals have won both games against the Jacks.

To close out the busy week, the team will travel to Duluth to play in their first conference game against St. Scholastica (2-4) on Saturday, December 7th for a 1 p.m. game. The Saints most recently beat Bethany Lutheran who the Cardinals lost to in overtime earlier in the season.

Split Week for Women’s Basketball

The Cardinal women’s basketball team (2-2) will take on their first conference opponent this Wednesday night in the Saint Mary’s Gymnasium after the men’s basketball game. The team will take on St. Catherine University at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats (3-3) already had one conference game against Bethel and lost.

The team will also close out the weekend on the road at St. Scholastica (2-4) to play after the men’s basketball game at 3 p.m. The Cardinals were swept by the Saints last year and are determined to prevent that from happening again this season.

Women’s Hockey on the Road

The Saint Mary’s women’s hockey team (7-3) is fresh off a tournament win in Iowa, where they were crowned Mississippi Match Up Champions, and are now ready to return to regular season play. The team will head to Moorhead for a weekend series against Concordia College (0-4), with the first game scheduled for Friday December 6th at 7 p.m. and game two on Saturday, December 7th at 2 p.m.

The Cobbers have faced some of the top teams in the conference and the nation, as they were swept by No. 2 ranked Gustavus and No. 9 ranked Augsburg in their season opener.

Men’s Hockey Home Stand

The Cardinal men’s hockey team (4-3) is riding a three-game winning streak after defeating Lawrence University before the holiday break and is eager to get back into action. The Cardinals will host the Concordia College Cobbers (4-5) on December 6th and 7th.

Friday night’s home game at 7 p.m. will feature the annual Teddy Bear Toss. Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used teddy bears or stuffed animals to throw onto the ice after the Cardinals score their first goal. All donated toys will go to the Winona Area Toys for Kids program and be distributed to children in the Winona area.

The Cobbers are on a four-game losing streak after being swept by Gustavus and losing to Hamline, a team who the Cardinals swept.

It’s fantastic to have all the student-athletes back on campus after the holiday break, and this week promises to be full of excitement! All events will have live stats and streaming opportunities available on our website. Go Cardinals!
