“If we detach ourselves entirely from our body, we will lead a heavenly life on this earth, and when we die, our body, having already acquired a sort of incorruptibility, will live forever before God by the transformation that will have been wrought in it by grace. Pray to the Most Blessed Virgin to obtain this favor for you today, that your body, sharing in the life of your soul by mortification of your senses, may no longer take pleasure in anything on this earth but may live in some way as though it were in heaven.” – Saint John Baptist de La Salle
This Thursday, August 15, the Church celebrates the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Pope Pius XII defined the doctrine of Our Lady’s Assumption in 1950: at the end of her earthly life, the Immaculate Mother of God was assumed body and soul to heavenly glory. This statement embodies the two bases for the doctrine: her Immaculate Conception and her dignity as Mother of God.
This particular celebration of our Patroness is a holy day of obligation. Please see below for the full Saint Mary’s University Mass schedule for Winona and Minneapolis. We look forward to celebrating with you!
