Residence halls will officially close for fall break on Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7 p.m. They will reopen on Monday, Nov. 29, at noon.

Residents are required to complete a break checkout form in eRezLife prior to leaving campus. The form will be open Monday, Nov. 22. Each resident must fill out this form if leaving for break.

If a resident needs to remain on campus for Thanksgiving break, they must contact the Office of Residence Life at reslife@smumn.edu to request the break housing form. This form needs to be completed by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22.

Each resident must fill out either a break checkout form or a break housing form. If a resident fails to complete a form a $35 fine may be placed on their student account.

As a safety measure, the Office of Residence Life and Campus Safety routinely check all units in the residence halls and apartments during periods when school is not in session. Occupancy of any campus housing during breaks without authorization may result in a fine and/or loss of campus housing.

Residence hall staff will check student rooms during break periods to ensure that no safety hazards exist. If a staff member should notice evidence of a violation of federal, state, or local laws, or a violation of university policies or procedures, the staff member can confiscate items in question and will file a report with the Office of Residence Life.

Due to health concerns, all students should clean their room before leaving for break (i.e., remove trash, perishable food items, etc.). Failure to do so may result in a $35 fine.

You do not need to unplug your refrigerator for this break. If you choose to do so, please make sure the door of the refrigerator is left open and is defrosted and dry.

If a student remains on campus for Thanksgiving break, food service will not be available. The cafeteria will close at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, and the Cardinal Club, Market and Cardinal Coffee closing at 5 p.m. on the same date. Food service will reopen on Monday, Nov. 29, for dinner.

The Cardinal Co-op food pantry will be open during break for those who need it.
