It’s time to say, “Thank you, Minnesota legislators!”

Over 330 students on the Winona campus receive the MN State Grant. The Minnesota State Grant program provides need-based aid to thousands of Minnesota College students from low- and middle-income families.  It is an important part of the financial aid package for those students.  You might be a recipient of the grant; your best friend might be a recipient of the grant.  Everyone at the university benefits from it.

As the state faces competing interests during its budget process, it is important that our legislators hear about the direct impact that MN State Grant funding has for you. They need to know first-hand how helpful the Grant is and how the Grant is helping you and your classmates achieve educational goals.

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Toner Student Center Game Room, the President’s Office and the Financial Aid Office, in cooperation with the MN Private College Council, is sponsoring a thank you note writing campaign. Please take a couple of minutes to stop by the tables outside the mailroom in the Toner Student Center and write a  note to your legislators thanking them for the Minnesota State Grant program, telling them about the importance of the grant program to you and your classmates, and thanking them for their ongoing investment in higher education.

I, along with staff members from the Financial Aid Office and the Minnesota Private College Council, will be present with computers and note cards to assist you in writing notes. We will figure out who your legislators are and give you some suggested text.  We’ll have note cards and pens for you.  It shouldn’t take more than five minutes. All you need to do is show up!

As an extra enticement, we will be giving away a $25 gift card from Target.  For every thank you note that you complete, you will be  entered into the drawing once.

It will take just a few moments to make a lasting impact on a legislator.  Please join us.
