On April 11, 2025, the College held the annual Celebration of Scholarship. Over 100 presentations across a wide range of academic disciplines were given by students during the morning hours. The classrooms and hallways were filled with captivated listeners: students, faculty members, college staff and administration, including university president, Father Burns! Students felt support and encouragement from all who attended as they showcased their research, creative projects and academic works.

Assistant Professor Linda Sargent from the Department of Nursing, said, “Being a new program, this was the first Celebration of Scholarship Day that the Nursing Department has participated in, and we were very proud and excited to showcase the scholarship work of our nursing students!”

The afternoon featured an Education Showcase, Sumo Bot Competition, keynote speaker through the Department of Biology, and a Model UN.

The winners of the Sumo Bot Competition, which was organized by Professor Don Heier from the Department of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics, were Tanner Donnay and Luke Rickert. Tanner will be a senior, Luke a junior, and both are majoring in Computer Science. Congratulations Tanner and Luke!

The Model UN, a new event this year, was organized by Assistant Professor Miranda Greenwold, from the Business and Communication Department. Assistant Professor Greenwold noted they had 27 participating delegates plus 5 faculty/staff members that came as observers. She stated, “The students were SO into it and did a fantastic job!”

The Saint Mary’s University community thanks all faculty and students who participated in the Celebration of Scholarship. It is an exciting event that recognizes the hard work and achievements of students and faculty.
