On March 12, 2024, Saint Mary’s students attended Day at the Capitol — a powerful day of advocacy training, skill-building, meeting with legislators, and networking, all sponsored by the Minnesota Private College Council.  This year, the students advocated for the Promise Equalization Scholarship.  The scholarship would benefit low- and middle-income Minnesota students at private nonprofit colleges, placing them on par with students attending the University of Minnesota on the North Star Promise.  Our students did an outstanding job advocating for this program, representing the university and our students very well.  They had the opportunity to meet with  various representatives including Rep. Gene Pelowski, Chair of the House Higher Education Committee, and Senator Jeremy Miller, our local state Seantor.    They also heard from First Lady Gwen Walz.  The day was a wonderful learning opportunity for our students.  Thanks to all the student who participated.
