Student Senate Meeting Minutes

March 28, 2023

Meeting called to order by President Sophia O’Neil at 7:00 p.m.

Discussed ChatGPT at Ed Standards meeting, we are discussing whether or not it should be allowed to be used. 

Joseph Schauf, Vice President of Financial Affairs

Handful of budgets next week and then we are done. We have $20,000 left to distribute and should come in under budget for the year.

Meet in Toner at 7am to leave for Day at The Capital. Please be prepared to discuss Hunger Free Campus with your legislators.

Housing lottery slots come out the first week of April: the rooms become available to view 1 week before your time slot. 

Plazapalooza is April 21. We will be tabling. 

SAC events:

  • Tomorrow in the Toner Lounge is the speaker spotlight featuring the Klosky’s.
  • Sunday there is learn to cross stitch while watching a movie
  • Monday starts a campus-wide one egg hunt that runs through Wednesday.  The prize for finding the special egg is a Wii switch, but there will be decoy eggs to throw people off

Morgan Brown, Vice President of Administrative Affairs

Class officers are making good progress. Be sure to attend the cornhole tournament this Saturday at 1pm.

Please be on time for Day at The Capital. We will have breakfast for you on the bus. 

The Senate and the House have released their budget targets, and the House has increased funding for the Minnesota State Grant program while the Senate has no increase for the program. 

Class Officer Reports

Freshman: We will be making t-shirts in the makerspace to sell at Plazapalooza.

Sophomores: Cornhole tournament on Saturday at 1pm.  Winners win a set of cornhole boards. 

Juniors: We will be doing a dunk tank at Plazapalooza. If you have any suggestions of who to dunk, please let us know. 

Seniors: Gaslight is on Friday at 7 and Saturday at 6 this weekend. 

Senator Concerns

Campo is kicking students out of Aquinas at 11pm. 

  • Will follow up. 

How will they flag that ChatGPT is being used by students? 

  • It is a growing concern. They are working on figuring things out.
