Student Senate Meeting Minutes

1/27/26

President Garrett Rotzien called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  

Members Present: Garrett Rotzien, JJ Garcia, Zoe Fink, Javier Rodriguez, Jaedyn Fellenz, Lizzie Pike, Taryn Dornseif, Reese Heitzman, Scott Walker, Nozomi Osada, Maggie Albers, Grace Leis, Elizabeth Dellessio, Bella Norris, Alexa March, Mollie Koch, Caroline Paulson, Zachary Ames, Destinee Hoffman, Rylee O’Konek, Kylie Faerber, Peyton Berg, Karli Zetah, Angel Garcia, Bobby Skemp, Noelle Buckley, Kylee Paul, Kathy Tran, Amanda Siemienas 

Members Absent: None

Academic Request: ACS $4,005  

  • 5 students are looking to go to Georgia to present their research at a conference. The students are looking for money for a flight, hotel rooms, and dinner.

Motion to fund at the suggested amount of $4,005 was made by: Angel Garcia

Academic Request: NPA Psychology Conference $390

  • Some psychology students are hoping to go to the NPA academic conference in Chicago to present their research.

 Motion to fund at the suggested amount of $390 was made by: Angel Garcia

Resolution 003: Stairmaster Machines in the RAC

  • Students have seemed interested in getting a stairmaster in the RAC to use, so there will be two stairmasters put in, so students can use them. There will be 2 put into the RAC in the cardio room.

  • ICE Resources (workshops)
    • Got ideas from other schools presidents and is currently working with Fernanda to set up workshops. 
  • Senate Website is updated – check it out when you get a chance!
  • Golf Simulator Security

Noah Lahner, Vice President of Financial Affairs

  • Finance committee meeting on Wednesday for ACS and MPA academic request 
  • Budget training on Thursday

Javier Rodriguez, Vice President of Campus Affairs

  • I’m working on the netting for the golf simulator room.
  • Made Resolution 003 for the Stairmasters. 

Zoe Fink, Vice President of Academic Affairs

  • Nothing to report. 

Reese Heitzman, Vice President of Public Affairs

  • Voter Engagement Plan 
    • Eboard recent met with Ann Merchlewitz to go over the school’s Voter Engagement plan and we all approved of it. If you would like to read it, you can search “SMUMN Voter Engagement Plan” and it should be the first link that pops up 
  • Day at the Capitol Sign Up 
    • You will all receive an email for the link to sign up for Day at the Capitol. It is required that everyone attends. If you are not able to attend then please email me with your reasoning. 

Jaedyn Fellenz, Vice President of Student Affairs 

  • Wednesday – Men’s basketball vs. Carleton 7PM, Women’s basketball @ Carleton 7PM
  • Friday – Men’s hockey vs. St. Scolastica 7PM, Women’s hockey @ St. Scholastica 6PM, Track and Field @ St. Olaf 3PM, Men and Women’s tennis vs. Concordia 6PM
  • Saturday – Track and Field @ St. Olaf 9AM, Women’s basketball vs. Bethel 1PM, Men’s basketball vs. Bethel 3PM, Men’s hockey vs. St. Scholastica 2PM, Women’s hockey @ St. Scholastica 2PM
  • Cardinal Career prep – Mock interviews and resume reviews event Feb. 10-11. Registration is open now and spots are very limited.

Taryn Dornseif, Vice President of Media and Communications

  • JJ and I are working on the infographic that will be sent out to all SMU students. If anyone from the public relations committee is interested in helping out, please stick around for a couple minutes after the meeting. 

Lizzie Pike, Vice President of Administrative Affairs

  • Nothing to report. 

JJ Garcia, Vice President of Multicultural Affairs

  • Just like Taryn mentioned we will be working on the infographic. If anyone from the student life committee is interested in helping out. Feel free to join us after the meeting.

  • We are working on planning Gaslight for the Spring right now! 

Rylee O’Konek: Why is the pub having limited options and closing down some of their kitchen at 8 or 9pm, instead of 10pm?

Maggie Albers: Are there any updates about the washers not working in RSM?  

Karli Zetah: Can we fund resistance bands in the weightroom for everyone to use, instead of them being closed away for other athletes?
