Student Senate Meeting Minutes – February 22, 2022

Executive Board Reports

Elijah Williams, President
The tabletops for the coffee table and high top are currently located in Rochester. The bases were previously on back order but will be arriving shortly. We are hoping to have everything installed by the time we return from spring break.

The senate will reconvene after spring break on Tuesday, March 8. It will be a busy meeting, including the formal presidential nomination process. We will have more information to you shortly.

The Hendrickson Forum will take place on Thursday, April 7. Senators are highly encouraged to attend and will have the opportunity to go. Please reach out to Elijah if you are interested in attending this event.

Executive Board elections for the 2022 – 2023 are rapidly approaching. Petitions will be available beginning in mid-March, but more information will be available following spring break.

Thank you to the senators for their continued efforts in representing the student body. I hope you enjoy the well-deserved spring break!

Budget season is in full swing and it will start the first week back from spring break.

Jonathon Krull, Vice President of Public Affairs
We are working at rescheduling the Student Voices event over break, as of now it is still scheduled for then so please attend it if possible. If it is rescheduled you will receive an email from MPCC.

MAPCS has received a draft of the Hunger-Free Campus legislation, we are having the bill jacketed and introduced to committee. After that, it will be up for a vote.

The Student Voter Engagement Committee met for its inaugural meeting today, the group will be putting together a plan to increase voter turnout for upcoming elections.

Student Senate is co-sponsoring a panel put on by the Hendrickson Institute for Ethical Leadership titled “Local Leadership in Divisive Times” as well as the College Republicans, College Democrats, and PR/Business Club on March 16, at 7:00 p.m., in the President’s Room in Toner. Please stay tuned to the SMU Today and Senate Instagram for more information!

Spring Break Information

Residence halls will be closing this Friday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m.

Please complete the break checkout form located in eRezlife.

Residence halls will reopen Sunday, March 6 at 12:00 p.m.

If you need on campus housing, please fill out an online break housing request form. Contact the Office of Residence Life by February 24 by 4:30 p.m.

You will receive a message from the Office of Residence Life if your request is denied.

If you remain on campus for anything other than SMUMN sponsored activities, traveling long distances, or an international student, a $35 per night fee will be added to your student account.

Food service will not be available: cafeteria closes at 1:30 p.m. and Cardinal Club closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

The dining hall will reopen March 6 for dinner.

The Cardinal Coop food pantry will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. for those staying on campus.

This is located in Vlazny Kitchen.

Refrigerators must be unplugged, thawed and propped open before you leave campus.

Full size fridges can remain plugged in but do not forget to throw out anything that may expire during the break.

Career Services
Career Services, the Office of Alumni Engagement, and the event’s sponsor, Fastenal, is hosting a Mock Interview on Friday March 11 from 9:00 a.m-1:30 p.m.

Students will have the opportunity to complete 2-3 in-person and virtual interviews with volunteer interviewees and receive feedback.

Following the event, students will be able to go to the networking lunch with alumni and Fastenal representatives in Toner Dining Hall.

To participate, please fill out the student profile provided in Handshake and upload your resume by March 4.

SAC/Senate/RISE/Phi Mu Alpha Task Force
Monthly meeting for student leaders for updates and reports this Thursday.

We have been approved to send out our election ballot via the senate email.

I am still working with marketing and communications on both the Student Senate website and the restructuring of the Saint Mary’s website and they want student feedback so please reach out to me if you would like to be involved.
