Student Senate Meeting Minutes

10/28/25

President Garrett Rotzien called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  

Members Present: Garrett Rotzien, JJ Garcia, Noah Lahner, Zoe Fink, Javier Rodriguez, Lizzie Pike, Scott Walker, Nozomi Osada, Bella Norris (Ryan Pavelka), Maggie Albers (Harsha Gangashi), Grace Leis, Elizabeth Dellessio, Alexa March (Zach Newby), Caroline Paulson, Destinee Hoffman (Gracelyn Leichtnam), Mollie Koch (Atia Harl), Kylie Faerber, Peyton Berg, Karli Zetah, Noelle Buckley, Kylee Paul (Cora Nelson), Kathy Tran, Amanda Siemienas

Members Absent: Taryn Dornseif, Reese Heitzman, Priyanka Satish, and Angel Garcia

The Career Fair is Tomorrow!

  • More than 70 employers and graduate schools will be attending.
  • You can come anytime between 10am-1pm and find out more information about all the employers.
  • If you haven’t registered beforehand you can still stop by!

Handshake Information: Appointments & Registration through Career Services

  • Same login information as your SMUMN email and password.
  • You can get a Zoom appointment when the staff are off campus.
  • You can schedule Group Appointments, Senior Check-In, Self-Assessments, and Career Readiness Appointments through Handshakes.
  • Look at internships and events going on through the Handshake website, as well.
  • Handshake is also where you find and apply on-campus jobs offered on campus!

    • Check into the Career Services website to look at more information for any type of career based questions.

Executive Board Reports

Garrett Rotzien, President

  • Dr. Sellke is looking for a senator to serve on the General Education Assessment Committee (GEAC).
  • Senate will be working with Ishbel and the Perch to help get students involved with Cardinal Fest and Homecoming.
    • Starting on November 10
    • Minigame during half time of women’s basketball
    • Themed student section 
  • Headshots – Would it be easier for people to take them before the senate meeting or give everyone a window during the day to be there? 

Noah Lahner, Vice President of Financial Affairs

  • The Finance Committee has a meeting over lunch on Friday to go over a special request.

Javier Rodriguez, Vice President of Campus Affairs

  • Thank you to everyone who came to the Highway Clean Up on Saturday!

Zoe Fink, Vice President of Academic Affairs

  • Nothing to report. 

Reese Heitzman, Vice President of Public Affairs

  • Nothing to report. 

Priyanka Satish, Vice President of Student Affairs

  • As part of supporting the First Five Weeks initiative, I’ve been asked to gather some input from Student Senate. Please take a few minutes to answer the google form that was sent in your email so we can share student perspectives.

Taryn Dornseif, Vice President of Media and Communications

  • If you haven’t, please send in your photos for Senator Spotlights, as soon as you can!

Lizzie Pike, Vice President of Administrative Affairs

  • There are some upcoming fundraisers coming up, so keep your eye out to come support our class officers!

JJ Garcia, Vice President of Multicultural Affairs

  • BSA is having a Halloween movie night/costume contest October 29th in Salvi from 6:30-8pm! 
  • Por la Cultura will be handing out Concha’s (Traditional Mexican Sweet bread) and Hot chocolate October 30th in the entrance of Aquinas from 7:30am-10am!
  • FGI is having a Day of the Dead Altar assembly October 30th starting at 4:30pm in Student Success!

Sophomores

  • Nothing to report. 

Juniors

  • We are selling alcohol in the pub 11/23 for the Sunday Night Football Night! Have a valid 21+ driver’s license! 

Seniors

  • We are selling alcohol in the pub 12/7 for the Sunday Night Football Night! Have a valid 21+ driver’s license! 

Senator Concerns:

  • Amanda Siemiemas: What is the progress of the cameras on campus that were paid for last Spring by Senate?
    • The wires have been pulled and now we are waiting for the hard drive to install the cameras.
  • Kathy Tran: Concerns about the grading system.
    • Zoe Fink will bring this up to the Educational Curriculum Meeting.
  • Zachary Ames: Questions have arisen about the gate at Saint Yon’s to be available for students to drive in and out of.
    • This will be brought up in the next capital improvement polls.
