Student Senate Meeting Minutes

1/20/26

President Garrett Rotzien called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.  

Members Present: Garrett Rotzien, JJ Garcia, Zoe Fink, Javier Rodriguez, Jaedyn Fellenz, Lizzie Pike, Scott Walker, Nozomi Osada, Maggie Albers (Marc Fletemeyer), Grace Leis, Elizabeth Dellessio, Bella Norris (Ryan Pavelka), Alexa March (Zach Newby), Mollie Koch (Sarah Ringland), Caroline Paulson, Zachary Ames, Destinee Hoffman (Emma Kettlewell), Rylee O’Konek, Kylie Faerber, Peyton Berg (Gabbie Grover), Karli Zetah, Angel Garcia, Bobby Skemp, Noelle Buckley, Kylee Paul (Gracelyn Leichtnam) ,Kathy Tran, Amanda Siemienas

Senate Recognition: IT Club

  • A group of computer science students are wanting to put together an IT Club to do projects with computer science items. The group is looking to meet around 6pm every Monday, as a group. The group has at least 20 students who are interested. Anyone is welcome to join the club, no matter your major. The funds that would be used would be used for different kinds of robotics, computer supplies, and certificates.

Executive Board Reports

Garrett Rotzien, President

  • There have been ICE resources sent in an email from Scott Walker and information posted around campus for protocols. Reach out to campus safety for any concerns. 
  • I will be meeting with Father Burns on Thursday to update him on the progress of Student Senate. 
  • The golf simulator is working on getting nets and PVC pipes that will be worked with from Matt Klosky. 
  • The card scanner is up for the golf simulator. We are still working with Campus Safety, Jon Zill to get access for Golf Club and students on campus. 

Noah Lahner, Vice President of Financial Affairs

  • Finance committee meeting on Wednesday for ACS and MPA for the academic requests.  
  • Budget training on Thursday.  

Javier Rodriguez, Vice President of Campus Affairs

  • Met with Tim and the water bottle and the ice filler should be put up this week, as well as the cameras. 

Zoe Fink, Vice President of Academic Affairs

  • Nothing to report. 

Reese Heitzman, Vice President of Public Affairs

  • Day at the Capital Sign Up & Voter Registration will be happening next Tuesday during the meeting time! 

Jaedyn Fellenz, Vice President of Student Affairs 

  • Wednesday – Night in the nest vs. St. Olaf: First 50 students get free t-shirts and there will be free pizza. Women’s game is @ 5:30 and men’s @ 7:30
  • Thursday – Men’s hockey vs. St. John’s @ 7
  • Friday – Women’s hockey vs. St. Benedict @ 7
  • Saturday – Men’s basketball @ St. John’s, Women’s basketball vs. St. Benedict @ 1, Men’s hockey @ St. John’s, Women’s hockey vs. St. Benedict @ 3, Club hockey vs. Gustavus @ 7:30, and Track @ UWL

Taryn Dornseif, Vice President of Media and Communications

  • Senate Update Infographic 
    • I have reached out to my committee but no response from anyone. 
  • Waiver for golf simulator (Sign for complete training, sign for understanding of broken equipment.) 

Lizzie Pike, Vice President of Administrative Affairs

  • Senior Class Officers are working on planning Gaslight for the Spring!  

JJ Garcia, Vice President of Multicultural Affairs

  • Eamon, Director of Campus Ministry, is the new head of the Inclusion and Human Dignity Working Group (IHDWG).
  • Taryn and I are working on the infographics. We are looking to get this out in the first week of February.
  • I want to acknowledge that Scott sent a campus-wide email outlining ICE-related protocols. Campus Safety has been trained and knows how to respond in any situation that arises. I encourage senators to review and share that information with other Saint Mary’s students, and to direct any questions or concerns to Campus Safety or General Counsel Ann.

  • An email was sent from me to see the protocols for ICE and immigration awareness. Please make sure you are up to date and aware of ICE from the news.

  • We are working on planning Gaslight for the Spring right now! 

Angel Garcia: On Thursday the IHM Seminarians will be up in the Twin Cities at the March for Life.
