Spring break is almost here. Residence halls/villages/apartments will officially close and students must leave for spring break by 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 25, 2022. Residence halls will reopen on Sunday, March 6, 2022 at 12:00 p.m.

If you have not completed your break checkout form, please do so before leaving campus. You can find the form in eRezLife.

If you need on-campus housing between Friday, February 25 (after 7 p.m.) and Saturday, March 5, 2022 you must request and be approved to stay on-campus. This includes international students and student teachers. If your request is denied, you will be contacted by the Office of Residence. If you do not receive a response, your request has been approved.

Only those students who will be participating in Saint Mary’s sponsored activities, traveling long distances or international students will be granted break housing unless specifically approved by the Office of Residence Life. A $35 per night fee may be added to a student account for remaining on campus for reasons other than those stated above.

Permission to remain on campus during breaks is not automatic, and those seeking approval must register with the Office of Residence Life by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 24, through an online break housing request form. Key card access will be shut off after 7:00 p.m. on February 25 if the form is not completed. To get the form to remain on campus during break, please email reslife@smumn.edu and it will be sent to you via email.

As a safety measure, Campus Safety routinely checks all units in the residence halls and apartments during periods when school is not in session. Occupancy of any campus housing during breaks without authorization may result in a fine and/or loss of campus housing.

Residence hall staff will check student rooms during break periods to ensure that no safety hazards exist or that the resident is in violation of university policy. If a staff member should encounter a resident residing in the residence halls without authorization, the resident may receive a fine and/or loss of campus housing.

All dorm refrigerators must be unplugged, thawed and propped open for this break. If they are not defrosted and propped open prior to leaving they will mold and smell. All full size refrigerators may remain plugged in, but all food that will expire over break should be removed.

If you have food in common area refrigerators, please remove it before you leave for break. If you are staying here during break, please label your food with your name. All food not labeled will be subject to disposal.

Improper checkout fines will be issued for any violations of university policies found during break checks and / or if the break checkout form or break housing request form is not completed prior to leaving for break.

Food service will not be available. The cafeteria will close at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 25, and the Cardinal Club will close at 5 p.m. on the same date. T he dining hall will reopen on Sunday, March  6, for dinner.

The Cardinal Co-op food pantry will be open during break from 8:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. for those staying on campus. It is located in the Vlazny Hall kitchen.

If you have any questions or need to request the break housing form, please contact reslife@smumn.edu.
