During the French Revolution, all priests and members of religious congregations were required to take the oath which gave the state complete control of the Church in France. Brother Solomon LeClerq refused to take the oath and was killed on September 2, 1792. Blessed Brothers Roger, Leon, and Uldaric died in captivity on prison boats in 1794, along with many others.
