WINONA, Minn. — Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota has been awarded an extension of its prestigious Enabling Environments for Developing Science and Technology-Engineered Partnerships (EPIIC) grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF). Dr. Michael Ratajczyk, PI for the program says, “This funding extension directly supports the ongoing operations of Saint Mary’s Center for Business Analytics, empowering the institution to deepen its vital community outreach and expand regional industry partnerships. It allows us to engage with the community, increase our footprint and share some amazing things we’re doing at Saint Mary’s.”
The grant extension highlights the Center’s rapid growth and proven ability to bridge higher education with the evolving demands of today’s digital economy. Over the past year, the Center for Business Analytics has emerged as a premier hub for professional development and tech integration, attracting professionals from regional enterprises as well as business leaders from as far away as California. Speakers have included faculty, staff, and students from a variety of business analytics-focused disciplines.
Through hands-on workshops focusing on Generative AI, business intelligence, data storytelling and high-impact technology growth areas, the Center equips workforce leaders with actionable tools to solve complex operational challenges. To support career advancement and lifelong learning, workshop participants pursuing Continuing Education Units (CEUs) earned certificates of completion, reinforcing the practical value of the Center’s offerings. Sessions are often online but there is growth in face-to-face workshops where participants can engage with content for 4-5 hours as well.
“One of the things I truly love about this grant and the Center for Business Analytics work is how direct the connection is to Lasallian charism. Meeting the community where they’re at, engaging with people who may have never set foot on campus or attended an online session who are now gaining skills and education where otherwise they might not have the opportunity.”
The Center’s influence extended well beyond the classroom over the last year. Center leaders delivered guest lectures and keynote presentations at industry associations and moderated at professional panel discussions, sharing expertise on data-driven decision-making and emerging tech trends. This heightened visibility and community impact have also yielded sponsorship opportunities.
“We’ve had prospective graduate students come to us after attending an event and share that the Center for Business Analytics is a value-added differentiator. A reason they feel confident in the program they applied to.”
With the continued momentum provided by the NSF EPIIC grant extension, Saint Mary’s Center for Business Analytics is positioned to scale its regional footprint, forge new cross-sector collaborations, and deliver cutting-edge educational programming that drives technological adoption and economic growth across the Midwest. Future plans also include working with local businesses for consultation and education services and incorporating more student and faculty networking opportunities.
