Saint Mary’s alumni Nick (‘07) and Marie (‘05) Kuhn hosted the Saint Mary’s ISTEP-Noyce Scholars for lunch at their restaurant, The North End Pub and Grill. The Kuhn’s have built a thriving business in the town of Cochrane, Wisconsin, just 30 minutes north of Winona and continue to be active in the Saint Mary’s Alumni community. The scholars, Hope Clegg, Julia Langworthy and Amarr Adam along with Assistant Professor, Susan Baloun had an enriching experience by getting to hear the Kuhn SMU story and connect the Scholars with part of the community outside of their undergraduate programs on campus.
Under the National Science Foundation programming, Saint Mary’s University received the Inclusive STEM Teacher Education Pipeline Noyce Scholarship (ISTEP) grant which supports both undergraduate and graduate students who are entering the teaching profession in the Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) fields. Preservice teachers that are supported through the Noyce program receive scholarships and in turn agree to teach in high needs Minnesota school districts in STEM fields following completion of their programs. The Scholars that attended the event were Hope Clegg, future Secondary Life Science Teacher, Julia Langworthy, future Secondary Mathematics Teacher and Amarr Adam, future Middle School Mathematics Teacher.
Thank you to the Kuhn’s for hosting.
