The First Generation Initiative and the Learning Hub’s Writing Center will host a “First-Gen Resume Refresh” on Tuesday Feb 3 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in AH300. The event is designed to help students polish their professional documents in preparation for the upcoming Cardinal Career Prep event hosted by Career Services Feb 10-11.
The workshop will follow a “Round Robin” format, allowing students to move through various stations focused on:
- Narrative Control: Translating life experiences, such as caregiving or working while in school, into professional skills like conflict resolution and time management.
- Technical Optimization: Ensuring resumes are readable by Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and feature professional formatting.
- Action-Oriented Content: Updating passive task lists into results-based accomplishments using action verbs.
- Digital Presence: Customizing LinkedIn URLs and ensuring appropriate file naming conventions.
Attendees are encouraged to bring 4 to 5 physical copies of their current resume for immediate feedback. For those without resumes, bring a laptop or mobile device to work with the Writing Center on getting started and identifying experiences and accolades that should be on there!
Snacks and refreshments will be provided. This event is free and open to all, and we especially encourage first-gen students to attend!
