Reminder: Internship Registration Process & Deadlines
As summer and fall internships approach, here’s what you need to know to support students in securing academic credit.
Internship Registration for Credit
Students who plan to complete an internship for credit must complete the Internship Registration process before the term begins:
-
Summer Internship Deadline: May 5 (Internship period: May 5 – August 2)
-
Fall Internship Deadline: September 2
Students can find details, requirements, and necessary forms on the Internship Registration website. Once all documentation is submitted and approved, the Registrar will enroll them in the appropriate credits.
Who Needs to Register?
Encourage students to verify whether they need to enroll for credit. Registration is required if:
-
Their degree program mandates it (CJ, HH, PY, Sport Management)
-
Their employer requires them to earn academic credit
-
They need elective credit in their field ((ex. B, BU, C, CS, COM, etc.)
If students are unsure, they should consult their faculty advisor.
Encouraging Early Internship Planning
Many organizations hire interns several months in advance, so students should begin their search 3-6 months ahead of their intended start date. Encourage them to:
-
Complete their Handshake profile
-
Set up internship searches
-
Apply early to secure the best opportunities
How Faculty & Staff Can Help
-
Remind students about internship deadlines and registration requirements
-
Share this information in advising sessions, classes, and department communications
