Ramadan is the Islamic holiday, which occurs in the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and lasts 29 or 30 days based on when the new crescent moon appears. In Arabic, Ramadan refers to intense heat. It is a period of fasting and spiritual growth, which is one of the five pillars of Islam (declaration of faith, daily prayer, almsgiving, pilgrimage, and fasting). Ramadan ends with Eid al-Fitr, the festival of breaking the fast.

May we remember the Muslims during this time of fast as they seek to grow spirituality and find ways in our own life to deepen our spiritual life through our own practices of fasting and prayer.
