Several Burnsville police officers were shot — two officers and one firefighter-paramedic were killed — while responding to a domestic call on Sunday morning. Officer Paul Elmstrand, Officer Matthew Ruge, and firefighter-paramedic Adam Finseth were killed while responding. Many of our Saint Mary’s alumni serve the community of Burnsville, including Chief of Police Tanya Schwartz, M’08, Sergeant Matt Smith, ’00, and Detective Tim Vaughn, ’00. Mayor Elizabeth Kautz has also served on our Council of Regents for many years.
Our hearts and prayers are with those who have been affected by this tragedy. Please pray for the repose of the souls of the brave first responders who were senselessly killed and for all those who are in need of healing.
A mass will be offered on campus for these officers, medics, and families.
