Did you know Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota has a provost? What is a provost and what does a provost do? Reporting to the president, the provost is essentially the chief academic officer for the university, providing the academic vision, leadership, direction, and evaluation for all academic activities and faculty affairs of the university.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m., our provost, Brian Schmisek, Ph.D., will be in the Toner Student Dining Center for lunch with students. A few tables will be reserved for those who want to be there. If you are not on a meal plan, please let the Chartwells staff know you are attending lunch with the provost and your meal will be provided at no charge. Dr. Schmisek wants to hear about your Saint Mary’s academic experience.

Dr. Schmisek went to a Lasallian high school in Fargo, N.D., where the principal was our own Brother Roger Betzold, FSC. Dr. Schmisek is a biblical scholar who received his Ph.D. from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. As an award-winning author, he enjoys writing about theology and the Bible. He came to Saint Mary’s from Loyola University Chicago and prior to that from the University of Dallas.
