Saint Mary’s Business and Communication Department students networked with local business and civic leaders at last week’s “Cardinal Connections” event in Aquinas Hall, hosted by the School of Business and Technology and the Business Advisory Council.
The purpose of the event was to  re-establish in-person networking events, after much of their last few years had seen such events get cancelled due to Covid-19 precautions.
“It’s important for our students to know how to carry on a conversation with someone in a professional setting by introducing yourself and learning about them,” said Dr. Michelle Wieser, Dean of the School of Business and Technology. “This event allowed our students to do that in an environment where everyone was there to get to know each other better.”
Both the student and professional groups seemed to appreciate the opportunity to meet each other. “All of the business leaders I talked to were very approachable and seemed to be genuinely interested in my career aspirations,” said Peyton Buerman, a junior Marketing major and Public Relations and Digital Media minor. “I even have plans to follow up with a few of them who are working in areas I’m interested in getting into after graduation.”
There were over 100 students, faculty, staff, and professionals in attendance. The Career Services Office held a networking workshop two weeks prior to the event as a way to help students hone their networking skills.
