National Voter Registration Day

National Voter Registration Day is the nation’s biggest nonpartisan civic holiday. It is dedicated to getting every eligible American registered to vote for their next election.

Every year, millions of eligible voters are unable to cast a ballot because of a missed registration deadline, outdated registration information, or other problems with their voter registration.

According to 2020 post-election U.S. Census data, as many as one in four eligible voters in the country were not registered or weren’t sure. For groups already underrepresented in the electorate such as youth and communities of color, the numbers were even more stark; with less than 60% of potential voters aged 18-24 reported being registered to vote, and registration rates in communities of color lagging significantly behind the general electorate as well.

Also, remember that a lot may have changed for you since the election in 2020. You may have moved.  You may have changed your name.  You may have just turned 18. If that is the case for you, you may need to proactively register or update your registration ahead of the November election.

So, today, take a moment to register to vote or check your voter registration status.
