The safety and security of our Minneapolis Campus constituents is important to us. We implemented several changes to our security program in December to enhance campus security. The most visible change is having our security guards wear yellow vests and post at the entrances to the parking lots of LaSalle Hall and Brother Louis Hall. Additionally, all buildings, except LaSalle Hall, are locked during business hours and are accessible by key fob. Security is posted at each building and are available to provide access by calling the security phone number at 612-720-0417.

The Minneapolis Campus Emergency Guide has been updated with new safety information and provides information regarding the Campus Safety and security procedures for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The guide also includes information about closures due to weather and how to receive emergency notifications from the University. Please contact Campus Safety at tcsecurity@smumn.edu should you need a printed copy of the Minneapolis Campus Emergency Guide or pick one up when you are on campus. You may also access the guide on the Campus Safety webpage.

In addition to what’s covered in the Emergency Guide, the general safety practices below should be followed while on campus:

  • Call for a security escort if you are uncomfortable with unknown individuals and vehicles when you arrive to park or when you are leaving buildings
  • Always keep valuables out of site and secured when you leave your vehicle
  • Look for emergency evacuation routes, exits and stairwells near you, posted inside of each classroom, and note where in your building severe weather shelter areas are located
  • In the event of a fire alarm, exit to the nearest safe exit. Use stairwells if on upper or lower levels. Meet at the student parking lot on the west side of Oakland Avenue.  Wait until the All Clear is announced by security and safety designee before heading back into building
  • Always be aware of your surroundings, and report problems or concerns. f you see something, then SAY SOMETHING!  Let security know your concern by calling 612-720-0417
