Dr. Matt Gerlach has recently shared that he will leave his position as vice president for Character, Virtue, and Ethics at Saint Mary’s to assume the role of headmaster at the Chesterton Academy, effective June 7. Throughout his time at Saint Mary’s, Dr. Gerlach has played an instrumental role in advancing the Hendrickson Institute as an ethical resource for our university community while simultaneously supporting our efforts to further the university’s strategic objectives in character education and virtue formation. Additionally, he graciously accepted the request to serve as the interim provost and dean of faculties two years ago.
“We are grateful for Dr. Gerlach’s unwavering faith and dedicated service since his arrival at Saint Mary’s in August 2021,” said Father Burns. “We pray for success and flourishing in his new position and eagerly anticipate the opportunity to collaborate in our shared commitment to character formation.”
Future leadership plans for the Character, Virtue, and Ethics programs will be finalized at the start of the next academic year, reflecting the university’s steadfast commitment to molding the lives of students through the cultivation of intellectual, moral, and civic virtues.
