Mass testing positivity rate low; lay low period ends Jan. 27

The majority of the results from our student mass testing event on our Winona Campus are now in. Out of 712 tests, 18 positive results have been communicated, for a remarkably low positivity rate of less than 3 percent. An additional 150 students are on a 90-day exempt list because they tested positive while off campus over break.

Although most tests are in, those students who may be experiencing COVID-19 symptoms and have not received results of their tests are encouraged to email covid@smumn.edu to schedule a second test. Any student who wants to re-test can also schedule additional tests by emailing covid@smumn.edu.

We’re grateful for Ridgewood Lab Diagnostics who provided our on-campus testing, so we did not exhaust community testing resources during this peak period.

And, we’re grateful for everyone in our Saint Mary’s community for all that you continue to do to keep one another safe and keep our positive numbers low. Our protocols — and the thoughtful behavior of our students, faculty, and staff — helped us come in lower than many of our counterparts.

Because of this good news, we will discontinue the lay low period today, Thursday, Jan. 27, but we will continue to monitor trends and numbers closely and adjust as necessary.
