Masking at Cardinal sporting events

We continue to see significant violations of our COVID-19 protocols at home hockey games. Students have been observed without masks or with masks below their noses.  As we have advised previously, both the MIAC and the university require masks at all indoor intercollegiate sporting events.  Signage at the hockey rink as well as announcements at hockey games have been made to remind students of this protocol.

Appropriate masking at indoor sporting events requires that any mask be worn over the mouth and nose throughout the competition.

Please be advised that if we do not see significant improvement in masking at the next home hockey games, we will close the hockey games to all spectators — students, families, and the Winona community.  While we would regret imposing this restriction, we need to protect our student-athletes and our students from COVID-19 transmission at games.

Your compliance with our MIAC and university protocols on masking is expected moving forward.
