Join Aidan Indahl and Grace Ehrmantraut for a special Live & Loud performance exploring the creation of Day by Day, an original musical born out of Aidan’s cancer diagnosis. Written by Saint Mary’s alumnus and former PMA president Aidan Indahl during his battle with cancer, Day by Day has a particularly meaningful connection to the Saint Mary’s community. It was here that Aidan received his cancer diagnosis, and it was through his experiences with illness, uncertainty, and the love of those around him that the earliest ideas for the musical began to take shape. Day by Day follows James and Iris, a young married couple surrounded by a close-knit group of friends who have become their family. When Iris is diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, their lives change forever. The story explores not only her experience with illness, but also how her husband, friends, and family navigate grief, fear, love, and the difficult reality that sometimes we cannot fix the pain of those we love. Through live performances of original songs and conversations about the creative process, Aidan and composer and orchestrator Grace Ehrmantraut will share how the musical developed and explore its central themes of cancer, grief, mental health, friendship, love, and found family. They will be joined by Kelsey Clarke, who originated the role of Iris in the show’s first read-through. At its heart, Day by Day is about the importance of showing up for one another, especially when there are no easy answers. As the Saint Mary’s community continues to experience the profound impact of cancer and loss, this performance offers an opportunity to reflect on grief, remember the importance of community, and celebrate the love and connections that carry us through life’s most difficult moments. Because sometimes we cannot take away someone’s pain, but we can choose to walk beside them, day by day.
