St. John Baptist de La Salle was buried in the Church of St. Sever in Rouen, France, on April 8, 1719, the day after his death on Good Friday. In 1734, his body was transferred to the St. Yon’s chapel in Rouen. During the French Revolution, the tomb was vandalized, but the relics were not harmed. In 1904, when the Brothers were expelled from France, the reliquary and its precious contents were moved from Rouen to Belgium.

In 1937 with great ceremony they were once again transferred on January 26, this time to the new Generalate in Rome, where they are today venerated in the sanctuary of the main chapel of St. John Baptist de La Salle.
