Greetings!
We are excited to share the new Office of Student Engagement with you. Previously known as Recreation, Involvement, and Student Engagement (R.I.S.E.), the Office of Student Engagement will now oversee The Perch, Clubs and Organizations, and provide general programming support for all. The Office of Student Engagement will be following the motto of “Find your people. Find your purpose.” Our mission is to enhance the student experience and nurture students into becoming servant leaders. By centering extracurriculars on ethical, educational, and interactive programming, the Office of Student Engagement helps students gain a well-rounded experience. Students should feel a sense of belonging and discover their purpose within the Saint Mary’s community. For any questions, please email studentengagement@smumn.edu.
With this update, the Student Activities Committee (SAC), will now be The Perch. A student-led decision, the image of a cardinal on its perch is how the students want others to feel. It encourages students, just like a cardinal, to find their place within campus where they feel comfortable and as though they belong. The Perch will work closely with the Director of Residential Experience and Student Engagement on each event they plan. The Director will provide support throughout the entire planning process and throughout the event, ensuring students are thinking strategically and creatively. The close relationship of The Perch and Office of Student Engagement will ensure that campus wide events are student centered, intentional in community building, and aligned with the LaSallian Catholic beliefs. Please feel free to reach out to the student-led organization though perch@smumn.edu.
For any other questions, please contact the Director of Residential Experience and Student Engagement, Ishbel Wilson, through email at iwilson@smumn.edu or by phone at (507)457-8659.
