Domestic Violence Awareness Month – The Clothesline Project

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is observed nationally each year in October as a way to acknowledge domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims. Activities during this month connect and unite individuals and organizations working to raise awareness for domestic violence issues.

In 2020, there were 30 known victims of murder due to intimate partner violence in Minnesota. Each October in observance of DVAM, The Clothesline Project is displayed throughout Winona, featuring shirts honoring each victim.

The mission of The Clothesline Project is “to increase awareness of the impact of violence and abuse, to honor a survivor’s strength to continue, and to provide another avenue for them to courageously break the silence that often surrounds their experience.”

The Clothesline Project will be displayed in the Winona Campus plaza Thursday, Oct. 21, through Monday, Oct. 25.
