With the Spring Semester just around the corner, here are three easy tasks that instructors can accomplish in their Canvas course(s). By completing these three tasks now, your course will be in a much better place at the start of the new Semester.

Please take a moment to review and complete the following tasks in Canvas:

Task #1 – Update your due dates. Make sure to carefully review all assignments and discussions and update the due dates accordingly. Keep in mind that when a course gets copied from a previous semester, it does not automatically update due dates. Therefore, instructors must review all assignments and update the due dates accordingly.

Task #2 – Take advantage of the Canvas Link Validator. The Canvas link validator is a feature that helps ensure your course content has working links. A simple click of a button allows the system to a generate a report showing any and all broken hyperlinks in your course. Click this link to see how to use the Canvas Link Validator.

Task #3 – Make the “People” field visible to your students. Canvas allows instructors to modify the Course Navigation Menu Link (aka “blue links”) so that student cans view them. We recommend making the “People” link visible to your students. This allows your students to see a course roster right at the start of class. This helps build online community for you and your students. Click this link to see how to make the “People” field visible to your students.

The Instructional Technology team encourages you to accomplish these three tasks prior to the start of the Spring Semester. Please feel free to reach out to us if you need any assistance with these tasks. Click this link to set up a meeting with Instructional Technology.
