Another milestone for the Saint Mary’s softball team. After winning the Saint Mary’s NCAA DIII Softball Regional, they’ve earned the opportunity to host the program’s first-ever NCAA Super Regionals!
This year marks the second time in program history the team has made it thus far!
This Thursday, May 22nd, marks the start of the next round of the NCAA Tournament. Saint Mary’s will face the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 2:00 P.M. in the opening game.
The Cardinals are on a remarkable trajectory, echoing some of the most successful seasons in Saint Mary’s such as the National Championship team in 2002 as there are only 16 teams left competing for the national title.
With their impressive performance this year—including just the second 40+ win season in program history, three players earning First Team All-Region IX honors, and another receiving Honorable Mention—the team continues to build on a legacy of excellence.
In the Super Regionals, the Cardinals and the Warhawks will be the sole two teams competing in the regional matchup.
The schedule is set as follows at Saint Mary’s Field:
Thursday, May 22, 2025
Game 1: No. 1 Saint Mary’s (MN) vs. No. 2 UW-Whitewater | 2:00 P.M.
Friday, May 23, 2025
Game 2: No. 1 Saint Mary’s (MN) vs. No. 2 UW-Whitewater | 1:00 P.M.
Game 3: No. 1 Saint Mary’s (MN) vs. No. 2 UW-Whitewater | 3:30 P.M. (if necessary)
loser eliminated
The winner of this series will advance to the World Series!
Head Coach John Tschida is looking forward to the matchup. “We’ve faced them before, and it’s always been a tough battle,” Tschida said. “The games should be exciting.”
“Winning at home, we had a lot of support here,” said first baseman Peyton Berg, who made the all-tournament team in the first round of regionals. “It’s an honor.”
The Cardinals are eager to experience that same energy and sense of community as they host once again! Additional details on live streaming, ticketing, and more will be shared Monday evening.
